Section 001, Spring 2020
Section Description Provided by Instructor
The Seminar in Advanced Civil Procedure brings together practicing lawyers, faculty, and students to explore central aspects of the civil litigation process, in depth, from both scholarly and practitioner perspectives. Our aim is for students to deepen their understanding of the litigation process through close and critical consideration of the leading and cutting-edge literature in the field and through conversation with litigators, judges and others who engage in and shape the field.
Students post extended responses to the weekly readings on Courseworks. In addition, a short (10-page) end-of-semester paper is required.
For approximately half of the semester's classes, a litigator (and, on occasion, a federal judge) will join the class discussion. In all classes, discussion will focus on identifying and exploring questions raised by the literature and on thinking both practically and theoretically about the relationship between the literature and the operation of civil litigation.
