Trisha L. Smith joined Columbia Law School in 1998. Her practice focuses on advising companies on regulatory compliance requirements and related ethics and governance issues.

She has advised clients on a variety of environmental issues, including brownfields redevelopment and coordinating complex environmental and construction issues for landmark development projects.

Smith served as counsel at Nixon Peabody. She is a member of the New York State Bar Association in the environmental law section, a member of the committee on environmental issues in business transactions, and the founder and chair of the Herriott Foundation's Kidstix Program. Smith serves as pro bono counsel to the Roberto Clemente Foundation and has worked with the foundation, New York CIty, Major League Baseball, Little League International, the New York Yankees, and the New York Mets to host Tee-Ball at Gracie Mansion each year for children ages five to seven.

She graduated from Hastings College of Law with a J.D. in 1988. In 1995, Smith earned her LL.M. from Columbia Law School, where she was a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar.  She is also a graduate of the University of California at Irvine in 1984. She is a member of Phi Beta Kappa.
