Gilbert Menna is a guest lecturer in law at Columbia Law School and an adjunct professor of finance and economics at Columbia Business School. He is a partner in Goodwin Proctor's business law department and serves as co-chair of its Real Estate, REITs & Real Estate Capital Markets Group. His areas of expertise include in mergers and acquisitions and corporate governance, securities and corporate finance, private investment funds, and tax practices. He has previously been a member of Goodwin Procter's management and executive committees.

Menna is nationally recognized for his representation of some of the nation’s leading publicly-traded real estate operating companies in connection with their corporate finance, governance, and merger and acquisition transactions. He has significant experience representing real estate investment managers in fund formation, portfolio acquisition, and merger and acquisitions transactions.

A member of the board of directors of New York University's Real Estate Institute's REIT Center, Menna is also a member of the Real Estate Roundtable. He has written and lectured extensively on topics in real estate securities and mergers and acquisitions, as well as on tax law issues facing the real estate capital markets industry. He is a guest lecturer at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Center for Real Estate, lecturing on the legal representation of publicly traded real estate operating companies.

Menna is admitted to practice in California, Massachusetts and New York. He was honored in 2010 with the Lifetime Achievement award for outstanding contributions to the REIT industry, in conjunction with the 50th anniversary of the legislation that established the REIT.

Menna is listed in The Best Lawyers in America and Chambers USA: America's Leading Lawyers for Business. He has been cited frequently in the legal press and has previously been selected for inclusion in The American Lawyer's “Forty-five Under 45,” a list of young lawyers “who are making their mark today and will lead the profession tomorrow.”

He earned a J.D. in 1982 and a M.L.T. from Georgetown University in 1983. Menna earned his B.A. in 1987 from Syracuse University, where he was a member of Phi Beta Kappa.
