Evan M. Frankel Clinical Professor in Environmental Law

Edward Lloyd is the Evan M. Frankel Clinical Professor in Environmental Law at Columbia Law School. He is a leading expert in environmental legal issues and citizen suit litigation. Lloyd has testified before the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives committees on environmental enforcement.

Among Lloyd’s numerous affiliations, Lloyd is a member of the Earth Institute’s Academic Committee, the Litigation Review Committee of the Environmental Defense Fund, the New Jersey Pinelands Commission, and the New Jersey Supreme Court Committee on Environmental Litigation. Lloyd is also the co-founder and co-director of the Eastern Environmental Law Center.

From 1985 to 2000, Lloyd served as the founding director of the Rutgers University Law School Environmental Law Clinic. He has lectured on both environmental legal issues at Judicial College for New Jersey judges and on citizen suit litigation at the Practicing Law Institute, American Law Institute, and the American Bar Association, as well as on numerous environmental courses for the practicing bar at the New Jersey Institute for Legal Education. From 1974 to 1985, Lloyd served as both staff attorney and executive director of the New Jersey Public Interest Research Group, where Lloyd continues to serve as general counsel.

Lloyd earned his J.D. from the University of Wisconsin and his undergraduate degree in chemistry from Princeton University.
