Since 1998, Charles B. Anderson has served as senior vice president and head of office of Skuld North America, the general U.S. correspondents for Assuranceforeningen Skuld, a leading marine protection and indemnity underwriter based in Oslo, Norway. He is also a member of the Society of Maritime Arbitrators in New York.

From 1997 to 1998, Anderson was a partner with Holland & Knight, an internationally recognized maritime and transportation law firm, where he specialized in admiralty and environmental law. Anderson has represented shipowners, charterers, P&I Clubs and other marine insurers in numerous well-known maritime casualty and pollution cases, and has written and lectured extensively on marine pollution.

In 1998, he was elected a Titulary Member of the Comité Maritime International in recognition of his work in the area of international shipping and environmental law. From 1989-1997, he was a partner with Haight, Gardner, Poor & Havens, where he also served as an associate from 1980 to 1989.

Anderson has written widely on maritime and environmental law issues. Of his many publications, Anderson is a co-author of Shipping and the Environment, Informa, 2009, now in its second edition.

He has authored many journal articles, including “Damage to Natural Resources and the Costs of Restoration” in the Tulane Law Review, 1997; “Liability of Charterers and Cargo Owners for Pollution from Ships” in the Tulane Maritime Law Journal, Winter 2001; “CERCLA and the Carriage of Dangerous Goods and Hazardous Substances” in the Tulane Maritime Law Journal, Summer 1997.

Anderson earned his J.D. from Columbia Law School in 1980; his an M.A. from Princeton University in 1974; and his B.A. from Columbia University in 1969. He was a George C. Marshall Fellow at the University of Copenhagen in 1975.

From 1969 to 1972, Anderson served in the U.S. Navy and was a commander in the U.S. Naval Reserve from 1972 to 1997.
