Latino/a Law Students Association Moot Court
May serve as a substitute for L6679-Foundation Year Moot Court for first-year students, with prior approval of the faculty Moot Court Director.
The LaLSA Moot Court, which is sponsored by the Latino/a Law Students Association, offers law students the opportunity to develop brief-writing and oral advocacy skills while exploring complex contemporary issues affecting the Latino/a community. In the fall, students conduct extensive legal research and begin the brief writing process. Throughout the spring semester students participate in oral argument practice rounds before panels of lawyers acting as judges. In 2013-2014, the students' briefs and oral arguments will be based on the problem developed by the Hispanic National Bar Association (HNBA) for its Annual Uvaldo Herrera National Moot Court Competition. One team of students will be selected to represent Columbia at the competition in late March.
In the spring semester 1L students are required to rewrite their briefs under the close supervision of their assigned Moot Court student editors.
