The Executive Board comprises three third-year students selected by their predecessors in consultation with the Faculty Director. Their collective responsibility is the successful conduct of the curricular and extracurricular components of the Moot Court Program as described below:
Executive Director: The Executive Director oversees the work of the Executive Board, takes general responsibility for all Moot Court programs, supervises the invitation of alumni and others to serve as judges, and coordinates the schedules of the components of the programs. The Executive Director receives neither academic points nor writing credit and is compensated for the academic year.
Director, First-year program: The Director takes responsibility for the entire operation of the moot court component of the first-year curriculum; serves as teaching assistant in L6674 Workshop in Briefcraft; and oversees the work of the student editors. The Director is the principal contact for first-year students and is primarily responsible for ensuring that bench memoranda and briefs are timely filed. The Director also collaborates with the Executive Director in the scheduling and organization of the oral arguments. In consultation with the Faculty Director, the Director handles alleged violations of program requirements and adjudicates hardship requests. The Director is compensated for the academic year. The Director also receives two academic points in the fall for performance as teaching assistant.
Director, Harlan Fiske Stone program: With the advice and approval of the Faculty Director and other faculty members, the Director composes the moot case for argument in the fall and spring rounds. In addition to a suitable record presenting the case, the Director writes a comprehensive bench memorandum on the case for distribution to sitting judges. The Director also has primary responsibility for scheduling the preliminary rounds of the competition and exercises general supervision of student participation. The Director works closely with the administration on the arrangements for the final round arguments in the spring. The Director is compensated for the academic year and receives one academic point each term. These credits are subject to a four-credit limit (see Rules for the J.D. Degree, Rule 1.13).
