Grading is High Pass, Pass, Low Pass, and Fail.
In this course students begin to learn and work with the skills in research, writing and analysis that they will need in legal practice. In Part 1 of the course, which begins in the fall semester at the same time as Legal Methods, students receive intensive training through written assignments placed in practice contexts, seminar discussions, and personal conferences. Students also participate for several weeks in an additional research module, which is taught by the Reference Librarians.
In Part 2, which is taught in the spring, students continue to build on the skills learned in the fall. In addition, students learn about persuasive writing with a particular focus on appellate advocacy as they research, write, and argue an appellate brief through the Foundation Moot Court program or one of the alternative intermural competitions.
