Enhancing Multilateral Engagement with Major Economies
(Climate Action Plan, p. 17.)
The United States is to propose that the Major Economies Forum on Energy and Climate (MEF) launch a major initiative in 2013 focused on further accelerating efficiency gains in the buildings sector.
Implementation, Progress, and Outcomes
September 24, 2013: Meeting in New York, MEF participants agreed to advance an initiative focused on improving the performance and energy efficiency of buildings. Participants agreed to begin by forming a working-level task force to further define the initiative, including issues such as goals and metrics, and to begin sharing best practices and policies. The task force will report back to the MEF ministers at the first MEF meeting in 2014. At that point, the ministers will determine next steps, with the goal of a launch with “leader-level engagement” in 2014. (See Sixteenth Meeting of the Leaders’ Representatives, MEF (Sept. 24, 2013).)
