The conference commenced with remarks by Charities Regulation and Oversight Project Lead Counsel Cindy Lott, Dean for Social Justice Initiatives Ellen Chapnick, and National State Attorneys General Program Director Jim Tierney. They welcomed attendees and framed the conference, noting its prospective focus, the wide range of perspectives and interests represented, and the agenda’s debate and discussion. They additionally recognized and thanked Columbia Law School, the National Attorneys General Training and Research Institute, the Ford and Mott Foundations, and the Social Justice Initiatives for their support. Vermont Attorney General Bill Sorrell spoke next on behalf of the NAAG Mission Foundation and NAGTRI, citing those organizations’ mission to enhance NAAG activities and their support for the conference.
