The Office of Admissions receives a considerable number of visiting student applications each year and, typically, a significant number of visiting students (5 to 10) are enrolled as nonmatriculants each year.
Admission for visiting student status is indeed based on the entire applicant profile. In reviewing applications, the Admissions Committee considers all of the information contained in your file, such as your law school transcripts to date, your undergraduate and any other graduate transcripts, LSAT performance, letters of recommendation, and a statement regarding why you are seeking visiting student status at Columbia Law School.
